Established in 2006 by Lorcan and Kathleen McGarry, Argus Opticians understand how important your vision is to you and are dedicated to providing the highest standard of eye care. Using the latest technologies and treatments we offer outstanding levels of service and customer care.

At Argus, we believe in providing the highest standard eye care services in a community setting. Our patient’s eye health is our primary concern and we have invested heavily in the most up to date technology to allow us to provide the highest standards of care.
The Team
Lorcan
Lorcan graduated from Glasgow Caledonian University in 1995 and practiced in Scotland, New Zealand and Downpatrick (where he met Kathleen) before deciding to establish Argus Opticians. Lorcan recently added to his qualifications by completing professional certificates in Medical Retina and Theory of Independent Prescribing. His other areas of professional interest currently include myopia control, dry eye and OCT analysis.
Outside of work Lorcan is an obsessive scholar of Brazilian Jiu Jitsu in which he currently holds a blue belt. When he’s not nursing injuries he loves walking with Kathleen and his two boys. His other interests include music and football. He is an annual pilgrim to Glastonbury festival and a lifelong supporter of Tottenham Hotspur.
Kathleen
Kathleen is the beating heart of Argus Opticians. She is the warmest of personalities and will always go to the nth degree for the customers. Kathleen has been working in eye care since her teens and began her career working for Lorcan’s cousin Edel in Downpatrick, before Lorcan stole her away to Donegal, for which Edel has still not forgiven him.
Kathleen has a special affection for the kids in the practice and it’s this reputation that brings many families through the door. She is also renowned for her keen sense of style and many patients will only allow Kathleen to help them choose their eyewear. (We are not offended!)
Outside of work Kathleen loves Sunday walks with the family and getting to the gym, when she can. She also loves music, reading and gardening.
Fiona
Fiona is an indispensable member of the team at Argus Opticians.. Extremely personable, conscientious and reliable, Fiona is the one who makes sure Argus Opticians is organised as opposed to organised chaos.
Outside of work, when she is not organising husband John-Paul and her two boys Dylan and Odhran, Fiona loves keeping fit and regularly gets up at 6.00 am to attend boot camps. She also loves walking her two dogs Costa (named after Diego Costa!) and Rudy.
Nuala
Nuala is the newest addition to the team and is proving herself an extremely fast learner. She has Kathleen’s eye for fashion and Fiona’s organisational skills, a winning combination!
Outside of work Nuala likes walking, Pilates and spending time with her young family. She loves being involved in Bosco Dramatic Productions and all things singing and dancing.
Rachel
Rachel graduated with a BScHons degree in Optometry from Glasgow Caledonian University in 2009. The first four years of her career were spent working for a large Optical retailer in Glasgow. During this time she was able to hone the skills she had learned at university and was eventually given the opportunity and responsibility to act as supervisor for pre-registration optometry students.
Driven by the desire to experience another side of Optometry, she decided to start work as a locum Optometrist and gained a lot of invaluable experience in this stage of her career. She loves working in Argus Opticians as it gives her the opportunity to further develop her knowledge and skills using the most up to date technology and she particularly loves being a part of the Donegal Town community.
In her spare time she is an accomplished Muay Thai martial artist, strength trainer and has recently embarked on an open water swimming kick! Don't mess with her!
